Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his family as well as service to his community. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on a Eufala farm. In second football, he was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. The three brothers all made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. The three years he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. In his role as an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third time in the year 1975. Selmon received a diploma as a teacher. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. After graduation Lee Roy moved to Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for Tampa's Buccaneers. There were three times, he was selected All-Pro. He began his business career. By 1988 he had become an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's top 10 young men. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when he played college football. In 1975, he led the team. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as the Associate Director of Sports. In 1993, the College Football Hall of Fame named him on the 28th of October, 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
