She quit her place in the Panthers in 1969 and resigned from high school, after having attended Calumet High School, and Kenwood High School. (Now Kenwood Academy). The first time she performed was in Chicago with small groups and with her lover Hassan Khan. Chaka Khan and Hassan got married in the year 1970.
